It has been reported that a former Valve employee is suing the company for $3.1 million, alleging discrimination and wrongful termination.
The employee worked for Valve in their Washington state offices as a translator, and in 2012 relocated to Los Angeles for a gender transition procedure. Valve accommodated this employee’s request for relocation. Earlier this year, this employee was terminated by Valve.
The employee alleges that her supervisor at Valve referred to her as “it” following her sex change operation. She also alleges that her supervisor kept volunteer staff indefinitely with the promise of full-time employment. The employee had filed a complaint on this practice just before being let go.
Valve said the employee was laid off due to her job being moved back to Washington. Valve has denied the allegations.
