Street Fighter V is bouncing back. After the well-received “A Shadow Falls” story expansion last month, to the outstanding viewership of the top 8 finals at EVO 2016 it is safe to say, Capcom are working on bringing Street Fighter V back from the brink.
We have the fan favourite Juri Han from Street Fighter IV making her return at the end of this month as DLC for SFV and the villainous Urien from the Street Fighter III series coming probably next month. This is all well and good and Capcom have confirmed that we will see a second round of DLC characters next year.
This is great news for fans of the series and people who are looking to get into SFV but the big question is: Who the hell should be in round 2? Well never fear fighting game fans I am here to give you my list of world warriors who should be in Street Fighter V!
So let’s say for list sake that we will see eight DLC characters in round 2 and that three of those fighters will be all new cast members. That leaves us with five legacy characters. Remember this list is my own personal opinion, if I don’t mention a fighter who should be on this list, let us know down in the comments!
The OG master of Muay Thai and one of the original members of Shadaloo, Sagat’s absence in SFV is seriously noticeable. Let’s not forget that this giant mass of rippling muscles and scars was the original boss of the first ever Street Fighter game! He has made countless appearances over the franchise as Ryu’s eternal rival after Ryu delivered a Metsu Shoryuken straight into Sagat’s chest leaving him with a rather fetching scar on his chest (Woo lore talk). Gameplay wise Sagat is a fireball character with high and low tiger shots, the vicious tiger knee that propels him forward and the almighty tiger uppercut. Top off all of this with an interesting V-Skill and a V-Trigger that buffs all of his special moves (Tiger uppercut from the Alpha series anyone?) and Sagat could be the next fan favourite!
Every fighting game needs their Bruce Lee knock off, and Fei-Long fits that bill perfectly. The guy is a Hong Kong actor who specialises in Kung-Fu… So Bruce Lee. Joking aside Fei-Long totally deserves to be in SFV due to his unique rushdown style. Fei-Long is a rekka character (A character who has chain special moves) which is a style that isn’t really in SFV right now. Fei-Long’s rekka punch and kick specials are visually impressive and look mad stylish but with advancements in rekka characters like Iron Fist in Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 we could see Fei-Long have multiple options on his rekka combos, transitioning from punches to kicks during rekka combo’s would look super cool and make Fei-Long a top contender!
The Man, The Mystery, The Enigma. Q is a perplexing character, introduced in Street Fighter III: Third Strike, Q is a powerhouse brawler with one hell of a metal mask. Q’s style is hard to pin down because well… he don’t have one. He is one of the least graceful characters in the franchise’s long history, making Rufus look as skilled and precise as Chun-Li. Q is a hulking man and all of his attacks are powerhouse blows, from dash punches which knock characters across the screen to wind-milling his hands around in a desperate attempt to slap your enemy to death (fearsome…). Q is such an obscure character and the fact that he is only limited to Street Fighter III: Third Strike is damn criminal, I mean Capcom… c’mon guys, bring him back.
Sakura not being in SFV to me makes no sense. Her biggest rival Karin Kanzuki is here and another rival of hers Ibuki made it in as round 1 DLC. But no Sakura love? I personally find this to be a shame as this is the perfect chance to evolve Sakura’s character. It would be so much more interesting to see her return as a full-fledged fighter. Replace that school girl outfit with something more akin to Ryu and Ken’s karate gi and buff her character and we could see something seriously interesting. Animate her attacks to show her mastery of her art and hell even give her some new moves that she herself has created! That coupled with the V-System of SFV could make for a well needed update to Sakura’s playstyle and look!
C’mon, who else? The REAL boss of Street Fighter, Akuma has been a fan favourite ever since he teleported onto the final stage of Super Street Fighter 2: Turbo and decimated M.Bison with his signature super attack: The Raging Demon. I know Capcom set out with the mind-set of not over populating SFV with Shoto characters (Characters who use fireballs, uppercuts and some variety of spin kick style move) but Akuma deserves a spot in SFV damnit! He may be a traditional shoto but Akuma offers tools that would be interesting to see in SFV. For starters an air fireball which would be interesting to see in set ups for combos and not to mention the greatest super attack of all time! Akuma’s V-Trigger writes itself as he can unleash his full potential and become Shin Akuma with an unlimited V-Trigger just like Necalli, raining down double fireballs and closing gaps with incredible speed would be so much fun!
