The recent announcement that Uncharted 4’s single player DLC won’t be revealed for some time has fuelled fan speculation that fan’s will be in for a big change from the normal game. Much like with The Last of Us and it’s Left Behind DLC, the new campaign should shake the formula up and provide an entirely different perspective from the original story. To discuss this, spoilers will be heavily present in this article so be careful if you haven’t finished the campaign yet.
The new single player DLC could likely focus on Sam’s adventures in the two years that he spent before going to Nate. We know that Sam had gathered a lot of the intel before finding his brother so this DLC could expand upon what he was up to. This would also give the players a chance to learn more about Sam. Whilst we do get a lot of time with him in the story, a lot of what he says is left ambiguous by the end, leaving fans wondering what Sam is really like. If the new DLC takes place from his perspective hopefully we’ll get a look at what fuels the eldest Drake.
Of course, just because the new DLC needs to reinvent the traditional gameplay doesn’t mean it has to abandon Nate. At the end of Uncharted 4 we see a much older Nate and learn that he has been adventuring well past the credits, pursuing many lost treasures with Elena. The ending of Uncharted 4 heavily set up the possibility of exploring the adventures that Nate goes on after finding Libertalia. If we explore these adventures we’ll certainly get to see more of the best bit of Uncharted; Nathan and Elena’s relationship. It would also be nice to experience the last bit of Uncharted 4 with the character we’ve all grown to love.
Two characters who were notably absent from Uncharted 4 despite their popularity were Cutter and Chloe. These two fan favourites are dying for a campaign dedicated to them especially as their fate was left so ambiguous. They both only get a reference each but fans are left speculating whether or not they ended up together and why they don’t appear at all in the story. The DLC could follow their adventures post Drake’s Deception and could also show more of how other characters like Elena know about Cutter. These two characters deserve more than a reference and it is entirely possible that Naughty Dog intend to deliver on this.
To really shake up the perspective of Uncharted 4 we could get to experience events from Rafe’s point of view. Being able to play as the villain for the first time in the series would be interesting, especially considering Rafe is one of the most interesting characters in the franchise so far. Rafe essentially has his own adventures in trying to find Libertalia when Nate gives up searching for it so this would be a good point to pick up from. Rafe’s time with Sam could also be explored if the DLC featured either of them.
Despite there being plenty of good choices for what character will be featured in the DLC, the smartest bet would be Cassie Drake. We get to experience some gameplay time as her in epilogue to the game but featuring her in the DLC would allow fans to get a greater look at her character. Considering she might be the protagonist of a future Uncharted game this certainly seems like a safe bet, especially with players already having had a chance to play as her. This would also make sense of Naughty Dog keeping details on the DLC quiet, making sure not to spoil a great plot point. Whatever the DLC ends up being, the high quality that Naughty Dog strives for certainly ensures that we will be in for an amazing experience.
