It won’t take too long for August 9th to be upon us, it’s not just a regular day for a lot of video game fans, however. It’s the release of the highly anticipated No Man’s Sky. We recently had an article on why NMS might not so good, which you can read and get angry about here.
But, lets not dwell on the negatives, since I noticed a fair number of people are sick of the negatives surroudning NMS. Here’s some reasons why I think it could be alright.
- Space, that’s good, right?
Space is not only the final frontier, it’s also where you’ll spend most of your awake moments once NMS launches. Don’t lie and pretend you won’t be spending upwards of 12 hours a day naming proceduraly generated planets and looking at all the great little things Hello Games have spent years working on. Space is a great setting for a game such as this, because you can go up there and say “this planet doesn’t exist!?” because how would you know? It provides endless hours of exploration and being procedural it makes it even more endless. So take some time off work and call your mom to let her know you’ll be okay and strap in.
- Cool Animals!
Who’s to say you won’t get out of your spaceship onto a planet full of Space Mice… or Space Sharks? NMS’ endless exploration can lead you anywhere and you could find anything, so who says you won’t find Space Shark, doing, Space Shark things. No one. No one can say that. And I’ll prove you all wrong.
- You can name the planets you find whatever you like!
Since they took Pluto off the official planets list and destined it to remain the rest of it’s day’s just a nuisance rock, i’m pretty certain Pluto is not very happy right about now. What better way to make it feel better than to name a planet in NMS after it? Yeah, take that NASA! But even if you’re a cold hearted person who doesn’t feel bad for baby planet Pluto, the fact you can name a planet whatever you like is pretty cool. Just don’t call one of them a swear word or something.
- You probably won’t encounter other players
This is one I personally love, with so many games these days coming out being multiplayer only, because I mean that’s what everyone wanted right? WRONG. I am awful at multiplayer shooters and with co-op games I end up paired with people who have no interest in the actual objective but are more amused in screwing it up and making me slowly become more annoyed. I can’t say I’ve ever started screaming at my TV in anger, but I do get annoyed. So having it so there’s other players, sure, but you probably won’t ever see them is amazing. I mean let’s face it people suck.
- Virtual Reality!
Let’s be real for a moment, it’s probably coming to VR. It’s too big not to! Imagine that, sitting in your VR headset exploring Outer Space? It would be amazing. But I guess if they don’t do a VR port, we can just sit really close to our TV or PC Monitor and be quite upset as our retina fade away.
All in all, I’m quite intrigued by NMS. I wouldn’t say I’m totally hyped or it and I can’t wait, but I am defiantly interested to see how it deliverers. I do have some worry it may be a Watch Dogs problem where by it was o hyped to ever deliver, but I guess we will have to wait and see. But that’s just my opinion, yours could differ incredibly. Do mention how you feel about No Man’s Sky in the comments. SET SAIL. FOR OUTER SPACE.
